Diversity of Plants

Comprehension

Diversity

Diversity means "distinct in kind"; "unlike"; "having variety in form". Bio - means "life".

Biodiversity defines "the distinctness and the uniqueness" of the all species of all kingdoms.

Biodiversity can be about the diversity of plants, the diversity of mushrooms, the diversity of bacteria, the diversity of cactus species, the diversity of carnivore species, or the diversity of soil microorganisms, or the diversity of EVERYTHING combined.

It is said that a loss of biodiversity in the modern world is imminent. This sense of crisis may be a part of reason that the “diversity” is talked about more than ever. For it requires a "name" to value something. Now, to address something we did not value before.
In this module, we focus on BIOLOGICAL DIVERSITY.

Biodiversity

A loss of biological diversity has been documented and heralded by many scientists. It is happening globally, not only in the rainforests. Your local ecosystem is not an exception. Read about the loss of biodiversity.

"Have you heard about Mesa Verde Cactus"?

The Ultimate Ecosystem

There are different regions in the world with different climates. But, there is only one system on this planet.

It is the Earth itself!

Evidence points to the "original Earth" as being rather uniform in its compositions. Atmospheric, hydrological, geological and biological activities in and around Earth over 4 1/2 billion years have created a variety of unique systems. However, they are all interrelated as an integral system.

Earth is changing as you read this. It is important that we understand that Earth is a single UNIT. We include some ten million species of living things. Each one is as important as the human species. Everything we do, even breathing, impacts other creatures and modifies our environment.
