Diversity of Plants

Questions??

  1. Which value is higher, desert or river?

  2. What may a higher number indicate?

Compare with the original data and make your educated guess. If a community has only one species, the value of H’ will be a zero. Higher values of H’ indicate higher:

    a. Numbers of species (species richness)

    b. Relative abundances (species evenness)

  3. How would you state your results? Compare in writing the two different ecological communities in terms of plant species.

Reflection - Examining solutions

  1. Should we collect more data in different seasons?      Why or why not?

  2. Should we repeat the study over some years?      Why or why not?

  3. What kinds of additional data might make this study more informative and more interesting?

What kinds of additional data will be needed if you decided to relate the biodiversity indices to other aspects in nature?

  4. Would this model work everywhere in the world?

  5. We assumed that these were satisfied. Do we have a "good result"?     Why or why not?
